Congratulations

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously (5-0) to fund the purchase of the 11-mile railroad spur extending the Wekiva Trail from its current terminus in Sorrento, and into downtown Mount Dora and downtown Tavares!!  We now have the purchase contract through TPL and the funding to make it happen!!

Thank you to everyone that turned out for the meeting, wrote letters/emails, talked with their commissioners, spoke at the meeting, and everyone that has been involved in this project before us for the past 25+ years!!

We had trail users speak covering basically every generation from their 20’s to their 80’s, and we had professionals speak from other counties about their experience with trails bringing in international tourists, professionals at grants and funding, professionals representing local business groups, local bike shops, local elected officials, local municipal staff, national non-profits, you name it.  Thank You All!!  I encourage everyone to go online and watch the meeting to see everyone that participated.  

Finally THANK YOU to the County Commissioners for moving trails forward in Lake County and taking this first step!!  I was also encouraged to hear your willingness to find a PERMANENT funding sources for trails like our surrounding counties, like sales tax, TDT, etc.   I look forward to this so we can get our Regionally Significant Trails built out and connected with our surrounding counties so Lake County can begin to enjoy the economic impact trails provide a community.
